Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Mr. Mikami Masahiro has sent a message to the Cambodian people concerning the flash floods being hitting many provinces of the country.

“I am saddened by the news that severe floods in many provinces in Cambodia have taken the lives of people and have forced many people to evacuate,” wrote the Japanese diplomat in his message yesterday.

“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of the victims by the flood. I pray that the souls of all the deceased rest in peace,” he added.

Mr. Mikami Masahiro also wished for the safety of Cambodian people, especially the people in the affected areas as well as the early recovery of people’s life.

According to Mr. Khun Sokha, Spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management, up to the afternoon of Oct. 11, 2020, 16 provinces and capital city or 51 districts/cities and 157 communes/Sangkat across Cambodia have been facing with flash floods, and the northwestern provinces are the most-hit.

Some 9,560 of the 101,812 affected people have been evacuated to safety grounds while nine people have found dead, he said.

About 24,666 houses, 39,462 hectares of rice fields and 34,188 hectares of subsidiary crops have been destroyed, without counting many inundated school buildings, roads and bridges, the spokesperson added.
