Phnom Penh Court, Appeal Court set to move to outskirts
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court and the Appeal Court will be relocated to a new seven-storey building in the capital’s Chroy Changvar district’s Prek Liep commune.
In a letter dated August 31 by the Office of the Council of Ministers and obtained today, Ly Chhuong Construction Co., Ltd is a recipient of the rights to construct a new building to house the two courts in a land swap.
The new building covers 19,959 square metres in Prek Liep commune.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court is currently located in front of the National Olympic Stadium with 1, 756 square metres in Prampi Makara district’s Veal Vong commune.
The Appeal Court is situated within the premises of the Ministry of Justice.
“To ensure the construction process of a new justice school building, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court location ownership is to be transferred to the company before a new construction begins with a transfer tax being paid by the state,” the letter said.
The letter said the state will add $3 million to have a new building fully equipped.
“The state will settle this additional money with Chhuong Construction Co., Ltd once a new construction, and installation of equipment and furniture is completed,” it added.
The letter said after the Appeal Court is moved to a new location, the Ministry of Justice will take over its location. Khmer Times
