Cambodia Marks International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking
Some 500 kilograms of confiscated drugs were destroyed this morning as part of the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event was held at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition in Phnom Penh under the presidency of Gen. Ke Kim Yan, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Authority for Combating Drugs with representatives from relevant ministries, institutions, and provinces in attendance.
The annual event, aimed to raise public awareness about the impacts and risks of drugs, took place this year under the theme of ‘Better Knowledge Better Care’.
Speaking at the function, Gen. Ke Kim Yan said that the 500 kilograms of illicit drugs had been confiscated from Phnom Penh capital and Kandal, Takeo, and Kampong Speu provinces.
According to report of the NACD, authorities cracked down on 9,806 drug cases last year, confiscating 750 kilograms of all types of drugs. AKP
