Some 100,000 seeds of palm trees have been planted along the border areas between Cambodia and Laos to symbolise Cambodian national identity.

The large scale palm tree planting in the northeastern Stung Treng province was led late last week by its Governor H.E. Mom Saroeun with participation from provincial officials and authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mom Saroeun underlined that palm tree is one of the plants providing plenty of benefits for Cambodian people, especially in terms of food and furniture productions.

Common since the ancient time, the palm tree does not only present the national soul and territory, but also beautify Cambodia’s landscape, emphasised the governor.

He considered the planting of palm trees as a historical move to inspire the next generation of the useful trees and to enhance national identify and culture.

The palm tree planting in Stung Treng focuses primarily along the areas from border markers 046 to 078 and in Siem Pang town.
