Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron today advised youths to hone their knowledge through self-learning and prepare themselves to meet the requirements of an increasingly competitive labour market.

In an interview themed “Digital Education” posted on the ministry’s Facebook page, Mr Chuon Naron said in the digital age the market is constantly changing and needs new skills.

“Youths should strengthen themselves with broad knowledge, technical skills and soft skills such as teamwork, critical thinking skills and leadership skills,” he said. “In addition, youths should also maintain good behaviour and optimism in their process of autonomous [self] learning and lifelong learning.”

Mr Chuon Naron said youths should strengthen their capacity to self-study, do research and use information technology, including digital tools.

He added that as the technology is evolving rapidly, nobody knows how the labour market will change in the next 20 to 30 years.

Aside from this, the minister also said that in order to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of young people in the digital age, schools need to improve their learning and teaching environment.
