Cambodia and Cuba Celebrate 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties
The Prime Minister of Cambodia received on Tuesday the Cuban ambassador to Cambodia, Liurka Rodriguez, at the start of the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between both countries.
The head of the government assured the activities would be on par with the relations of friendship, cooperation, and respect between both nations, and expressed his thanks for Cuba’s solidary held in the fields of health care and formation of human rights.
That’s why it is a duty for Cambodia to accompany Cuba in its just and noble causes, he said.
Rodriguez stressed the ties that have joined the Cambodian and Cuban peoples despite thousands of kilometers between them and noted that the beginning of the program for the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties coincides with the 167th anniversary of the birth of Cuba’s national hero, Jose Marti.
The Cambodian Prime Minister and the Cuban diplomat also recalled the visit by the former to Cuba in September 1999, when President Fidel Castro bestowed on him the Order of Jose Marti, the highest awarded by the Cuban state.
Cuba and the kingdom of Cambodia established diplomatic ties on April 15th, 1960.
To celebrate the anniversary, cultural and journalistic exchanges, exhibitions of photographs and audiovisuals, and other events have been organized, demonstrating the nature of the ties.
