Phnom Penh, Sept. 17, 2025 – Cambodia and China on Wednesday signed an agreement under the 2025 Special Fund of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), through which China will provide approximately USD 2.5 million to support 11 new development projects in Cambodia.

The signing ceremony took place at Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh, presided over by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, with the participation of senior officials from both sides.

Ambassador Wang Wenbin highlighted that China and Cambodia are not only partners in development but also co-leaders of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework. Under this mechanism, China has continuously supported Cambodian projects in poverty reduction, demining, education, disease prevention and control, and the reconstruction of homes for disaster victims. These initiatives, he noted, have directly benefited hundreds of thousands of people across ten provinces and cities in Cambodia, yielding tangible and meaningful results.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for China’s continued support, emphasizing that the 11 new projects approved for 2025 reaffirm China’s commitment to Cambodia’s socio-economic progress. He stated that these initiatives will focus on education, technical and vocational training, cultural heritage preservation, combating disinformation, women’s empowerment, tourism development, agricultural advancement, and raising awareness about the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.

He further stressed that the MLC Special Fund serves as an essential driving force for deeper regional integration and contributes to promoting sustainable and shared prosperity among all member countries.
